The grease may be dirty between the two upper lips, but if its dirty below that, then again, you need to service it more often. If you service your fork and there is no grease in your seals then you are not servicing it often enough. The bath oil should not be needed to lube the seals. There is better stuff than motor oil (like certain specialist bed-way lubricants) that you could use, but a good quality fully synthetic motor oil is streets ahead of any fork oil for that purpose.Īlso, properly pack your seals with a high quality silicon based suspension grease. For that reason, you want to use the best possible lubricant. In a closed cartridge fork, the only thing the oil in the lowers needs to do is lubricate. Its not magic so can't do everything well.
